Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) showcased a fresh mix of contemporary style, traditional craftsmanship and textile innovation during its October 2026 edition in New Delhi. From glamorous leisurewear to experimental fabrics, designers explored fashion that combines creativity with comfort and everyday wearability.
Here are five major trends that stood out on the runway.
1. Glam Leisure Takes Centre Stage
Glamorous outfits with a relaxed, sporty edge made a strong impression. Designer Namrata Joshipura’s OBSIDIAN collection featured sequins, metallic finishes, feathers and striking black silhouettes, demonstrating how comfort-inspired styling can blend with evening glamour.
2. Fringes and Textured Details
Fringes, tassels and tactile surfaces added movement and character to several collections. Amit Aggarwal and other designers used these details on garments and accessories to create visually striking looks that changed with every step.
3. Corsets and Bralettes Make a Statement
Corsets, bralettes and tube tops emerged as prominent styling choices. Designers incorporated structured bodices into contemporary occasionwear, offering alternatives to conventional blouse designs. Sculpted silhouettes and statement embellishments added a modern edge.
4. Technology Meets Fashion
The collaboration between R|Elan and HUEMN highlighted the growing role of innovative textile technology in fashion. Performance-oriented fabrics were combined with experimental shapes and traditional Indian detailing, demonstrating how material innovation can influence both appearance and functionality.
5. Tailoring Gets a Contemporary Twist
Modern tailoring brought together classic menswear shapes and fresh fabric choices. The Arvind Limited and Ashish N Soni showcase featured suits, dinner jackets and tuxedos crafted using materials including cotton, wool, linen, Tencel and bamboo.
A New Direction for Indian Fashion
The October edition demonstrated how Indian fashion is bringing together heritage crafts, contemporary silhouettes and innovative materials. The emphasis on versatility and expressive design also reflected a shift towards clothing that can transition between different occasions with minimal styling changes.
