INDIA Bloc Leaders Unite in Delhi Protest as Rahul Gandhi Warns of Legal Action Against BJP Leadership

New Delhi witnessed a major opposition mobilisation on November 1 as leaders of the INDIA Bloc gathered at Ramlila Maidan to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and raise concerns over electoral-roll revision. The demonstration brought together representatives of several opposition parties, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leading the campaign against alleged irregularities in the election process.

The gathering highlighted the alliance’s effort to present a united position on electoral transparency, democratic institutions and voting rights. Thousands of supporters participated in the march and public meeting, making it one of the largest opposition demonstrations in the capital in recent years.

Rahul Gandhi Warns of Legal Action Against Top BJP Leaders

Addressing supporters at Ramlila Maidan, Rahul Gandhi said that removing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be the first step towards addressing the concerns raised by the opposition.

He also warned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah could face legal proceedings in the future. Gandhi maintained that the opposition’s campaign was aimed at securing accountability and justice through democratic and legal means.

He further stated that the INDIA Bloc did not support violence or hatred against political opponents.

Opposition Parties Present a United Front

Leaders from different regional and national parties joined the demonstration, reflecting a coordinated effort by the INDIA Bloc to raise the electoral-roll issue.

The participation of leaders with different political backgrounds brought attention to the alliance’s collective campaign. Congress leaders and regional opposition representatives shared the platform and called for greater transparency in the functioning of the Election Commission.

The rally also provided an opportunity for opposition parties to demonstrate their cooperation on an issue they consider important for democratic participation.

Special Intensive Revision Remains at the Centre of Dispute

The opposition’s main objection concerns the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have alleged that the process has resulted in the removal of a large number of names, potentially affecting eligible voters.

According to the Hindustan Times report, around 130 million names had been removed from electoral rolls under the revision exercise, including entries categorised as absent, shifted or deceased.

The INDIA Bloc has questioned the process and demanded accountability from the Election Commission. However, the poll body maintains that electoral-roll revision is necessary to identify duplicate and ineligible entries.

BJP Accuses Opposition of Undermining Democratic Institutions

The BJP responded to the opposition demonstration by organising parallel political programmes and criticising the INDIA Bloc’s allegations.

BJP representatives accused Rahul Gandhi and opposition parties of attempting to create instability and undermine constitutional institutions. The ruling party also rejected claims of electoral manipulation.

The competing demonstrations reflected the widening political disagreement between the ruling alliance and opposition parties over the Election Commission and voter-list revision.

INDIA Bloc Plans to Continue Its Campaign

The Ramlila Maidan demonstration marked another important stage in the opposition’s campaign against alleged vote theft. INDIA Bloc leaders have indicated that they intend to take their concerns to constitutional authorities and continue raising the issue in different states.

The protest has brought electoral transparency and the independence of democratic institutions back into national political discussions. The disagreement between the government, Election Commission and opposition parties remains unresolved.
