IMA Seeks Review of Sunny Deol’s ‘Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak’ Over Portrayal of Doctors

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry to review Sunny Deol’s upcoming film Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak, raising concerns over its portrayal of doctors and alleged violence against healthcare workers. The association has asked for corrective measures and said a ban or other action should be considered if justified under the law.

IMA Raises Concerns Over Portrayal of Doctors

In its letter to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the IMA argued that the film’s promotional content could create the impression that corruption and unethical practices are widespread across the medical profession.

The association also objected to scenes depicting physical assaults on doctors, nurses and hospital staff, particularly when such violence appears justified or heroic. It warned that these portrayals could encourage hostility towards healthcare workers and weaken trust between doctors and patients.

What Is the Film About?

Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak stars Sunny Deol in a story centred on alleged medical malpractice and a fight for justice. The teaser, released on October 19 to coincide with the actor’s 69th birthday, presents a character whose faith in the medical system is shaken by alleged wrongdoing.

Directed by M Padmakumar, the film is a Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Malayalam crime thriller Joseph. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 20, 2026.

Film Certification Status

The controversy has emerged before the film’s release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clarified on October 22 that the film had not yet been submitted for certification.

The IMA has sought an impartial review and appropriate corrective measures, while asking authorities to consider a ban or other action if warranted under the law. No ban has been confirmed in the reports available at the time of writing.

The dispute has brought renewed attention to the balance between creative freedom, the portrayal of professional misconduct and the safety and reputation of healthcare workers.
