Tensions between the United States and Iran have sharply escalated following a series of military confrontations in the Gulf region. The U.S. military said its forces destroyed five Iranian crude-oil carriers on September 8, after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempted missile attacks against a U.S. Navy warship over two days. U.S. Central Command said the crews were ordered to abandon the vessels before the strikes.
Iran has disputed the U.S. account and claimed retaliatory attacks against ships in the region. U.S. Central Command, however, said Iranian claims that U.S. Navy warships had been struck were false.
The latest escalation has also had a major impact on global energy markets. Brent crude oil climbed above $100 a barrel on September 9, as investors became increasingly concerned about disruptions to oil supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The developments are raising concerns about higher fuel prices, inflation and further pressure on global markets if tensions continue.
