New Panel in the Works
The Karnataka Congress is preparing to establish a Political Affairs Committee intended to improve coordination between the state government and the party organisation. The proposal comes amid discussion about leadership roles and how major political decisions should be handled.
Chief Minister to Retain Final Authority
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara has said the committee would serve in an advisory capacity, rather than act as a separate authority. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would retain the final say on decisions and could consult the Congress high command when necessary.
Senior Leaders Expected to Join
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president B.K. Hariprasad said the panel would be formed soon. Its proposed membership includes the chief minister, the state party president, former Congress Legislature Party leaders and other senior party figures.
Focus on Party-Government Coordination
The committee is expected to provide a forum for discussing policy and organisational matters. Hariprasad noted that similar committees exist in states such as Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand. The panel’s final structure and working arrangements are yet to be settled.
