Mallikarjun Kharge Calls Meeting of Punjab Congress Leaders in Delhi Ahead of 2027 Assembly Elections

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has convened a meeting of senior Punjab Congress leaders in New Delhi on October 31 to discuss the party’s organisational strategy and preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

The meeting is expected to bring together Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Pargat Singh, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, party MPs and other senior office-bearers. The discussions are likely to focus on strengthening the state unit, improving coordination among leaders and preparing a roadmap for the upcoming polls.

Focus on Unity Within Punjab Congress

The Delhi meeting comes amid efforts by the Congress leadership to improve coordination within its Punjab unit. During earlier discussions in Chandigarh on October 26, AICC general secretary K. C. Venugopal and other senior leaders reportedly stressed the importance of organisational discipline and collective leadership.

The party has indicated that it intends to contest the 2027 Assembly elections under a collective leadership structure rather than allowing individual leaders to project themselves separately as the party’s face.

Rahul Gandhi’s Sangrur Rally on November 4

The meeting also comes ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s proposed ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Sangrur on November 4. The programme is expected to provide the Congress with an opportunity to raise issues concerning Punjab and connect with voters ahead of the Assembly elections.

Party leaders have been highlighting concerns such as unemployment, drug-related problems, law and order and the state’s financial situation.

Congress Begins Preparations for 2027

With the next Assembly elections approaching, the Congress is working to strengthen its organisational structure and coordinate activities across Punjab. The latest meeting is expected to take forward discussions on leadership coordination, party discipline and campaign planning.

The decisions emerging from the consultation could shape the party’s preparations and public outreach in Punjab in the months ahead.
