Flood Situation Continues in Bihar: Over 40 Lakh People Affected Across 14 Districts.

The flood situation in Bihar remains a major concern, with more than 40 lakh people affected across 14 districts. According to the latest updates from the Disaster Management Department, around 41.45 to 43.64 lakh people in over 500 gram panchayats have been impacted by the rising waters.

Incessant rains in the state combined with heavy rainfall in Nepal’s catchment areas have caused major rivers — including the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak, Punpun, Bagmati, and Ghaghra — to flow above the danger mark at multiple locations. Districts such as Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, and Buxar are among the worst affected.

There are positive signs in some areas. Water levels in the Ganga at Sultanganj (Bhagalpur) and certain other points have shown stability or a slight decline. Officials report that levels in parts of the Kosi and other rivers have also begun to ease, offering limited relief to residents.

Relief and rescue operations are in full swing. Hundreds of community kitchens (around 793–951) are providing meals to flood-affected families. Fifteen relief camps are currently housing over 11,000–13,000 people, with arrangements for food, medical care, and essential supplies. Thousands of boats are being used for evacuation and transportation, while dry ration packets, polythene sheets, and cattle fodder have been distributed on a large scale. NDRF and SDRF teams continue to assist in rescue efforts.

Authorities have ordered crop-loss assessments as agricultural land remains submerged in many areas. The state has received above-normal rainfall in September so far.

While river levels are starting to recede in select locations, the overall flood impact remains widespread. Residents and officials are focusing on continued relief distribution and ensuring safety until waters fully subside.
