Former Telangana minister and Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha on Sunday firmly ruled out leaving the Congress party, putting an end to speculation about a possible switch following her recent removal from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Cabinet.
Addressing a meeting of her supporters in Warangal for the first time after being dropped from the ministry, Surekha said she and her husband, former MLC Konda Murali, would continue working for the people whether or not they held official positions.
Surekha expressed confidence that she would receive the Congress ticket to contest from the Warangal East constituency in the 2028 Assembly elections. She added that she expected to be re-elected as an MLA and eventually return as a minister.
Her remarks came amid reports that the Congress high command has been in touch with her after her dismissal from the Cabinet on September 3. The removal followed controversy over critical remarks made by her daughter against the Chief Minister. Surekha has maintained that she was dropped without a valid reason and that she had not brought any disrepute to the ministerial post.
The former minister also appealed to her followers not to be influenced by “false propaganda” and reiterated that she and her husband were in politics to serve the people, not for posts. Konda Murali separately expressed commitment to strengthening the party’s presence in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation elections and protecting party workers.
Surekha’s statement is seen as an attempt to stabilise her political base in Warangal after the Cabinet reshuffle and to signal continued loyalty to the Congress ahead of the next state elections in 2028.
