tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area has claimed the lives of seven people, raising serious questions over building safety and construction practices. The five-storey building, being used as a boys’ paying guest (PG) accommodation, collapsed on Sunday. Rescue teams worked through the debris and recovered victims from the site. At least 12 people were rescued from the rubble.
Police have since arrested the PG operator as the investigation continues. Earlier, the building owner and other individuals connected with the property were also arrested. Investigators are examining alleged construction violations, maintenance failures and work carried out in the building before the collapse.

Preliminary reports have pointed to ongoing construction or basement work and water accumulation as possible factors behind the collapse, although the investigation is still underway.
The tragedy has also renewed concerns about the safety of PG accommodations in Delhi. The government is now considering tighter regulations, including licensing, structural safety certification and registration of PG properties.
