The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has expelled former party general secretary Kripa Alva for six years over her alleged involvement in a controversial sting operation targeting Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The disciplinary action took immediate effect.
The expulsion order was issued by KPCC vice-president M. Narayanaswamy on October 31. The party cited alleged anti-party activities and said the controversy had brought negative publicity and embarrassment to the organisation.
Congress Says Alva Did Not Respond to Notice
According to the party’s order, Alva had earlier received a show-cause notice seeking her explanation over allegations linking her to the sting operation. The KPCC said she had not submitted a response before the disciplinary decision was taken.
The party stated that her alleged conduct amounted to anti-party activity and announced her expulsion for six years.
Siddaramaiah Had Raised Allegations
The controversy intensified after Siddaramaiah publicly questioned the origins of a video containing allegations against him. He had named Alva in connection with the alleged operation and called for an investigation into those responsible for creating and circulating the recording.
Siddaramaiah has maintained that the video was fabricated and has also secured a court order restraining media organisations from publishing or broadcasting it.
Police Investigation Points to Fabricated Narrative
Bengaluru Police said their preliminary findings did not support the allegations depicted in the video. Investigators described the narrative as fabricated and said statements recorded during the inquiry, along with evidence collected so far, did not establish the incident portrayed.
Police have also traced and seized a mobile phone allegedly used to record the video. The device has been sent for forensic examination, while investigators continue to examine how the recording was created, circulated and uploaded online.
Investigation Continues Amid Political Attention
The case has drawn attention within Karnataka’s political circles, with questions surrounding the video’s origin and the identities of those involved in its circulation. Police are continuing their investigation, and the forensic findings are awaited.
The Congress action against Alva marks a significant disciplinary development in the controversy. However, the allegations concerning her alleged role remain subject to the ongoing investigation.
