BJP Plans Nationwide Protests Over Mallikarjun Kharge’s Controversial Remark

BJP Announces Demonstrations

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced protests at state and district headquarters over a remark made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge during a speech in Patna. The dispute has sparked fresh criticism between the two parties.

How the Controversy Began

Kharge was speaking at an event marking the birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Shri Krishna Singh, when the discussion turned to alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. After an audience member interrupted with a comment about Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaving office, Kharge replied, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega.”

Congress Defends Kharge

BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, criticised the remark and called for an apology. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera defended Kharge, saying the comment referred to the Prime Minister’s ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), rather than being aimed at Modi’s late father.

Political Dispute Continues

The exchange has added to the wider BJP-Congress confrontation over political rhetoric and the SIR process. The BJP has said it will take the protest campaign forward, while Congress leaders have stood by their party president.
