Kieron Pollard Appointed Mumbai Indians Head Coach Ahead of IPL 2027

Mumbai Indians have appointed former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard as their head coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He succeeds Mahela Jayawardene and steps up from his previous role as the franchise’s batting coach. The appointment was announced on October 24, 2026.

Pollard’s Long Association With Mumbai Indians

Pollard joined Mumbai Indians as a young player in 2010 and became a key contributor to the franchise’s success. He helped the team win five IPL titles between 2013 and 2020 and later continued his association as batting coach.

During his IPL playing career, Pollard scored 3,412 runs and took 69 wickets for Mumbai Indians. His experience in T20 cricket and familiarity with the squad are expected to be important as he takes charge of the team.

Pollard Replaces Mahela Jayawardene

Pollard takes over following Jayawardene’s departure from the head coach position. Mumbai Indians will look to build on their legacy under the new leadership as they prepare for IPL 2027.

Pollard Looks Ahead to New Role

Reacting to the appointment, Pollard said Mumbai Indians had been a major part of his life and career. He expressed gratitude to the franchise’s leadership and said he looked forward to working with the players and support staff, developing young talent and giving fans more reasons to celebrate.

The appointment marks a new phase in Pollard’s 16-year association with Mumbai Indians, as he moves from player and batting coach to the team’s top coaching role.
