Vidya Balan has started work on a new Tamil film with filmmaker R Balki, bringing the actor-director duo together nearly 17 years after their previous collaboration. The untitled project is currently being kept under wraps, but Vidya has already offered fans a glimpse from the sets.

The actor shared behind-the-scenes pictures on Instagram Stories to announce the beginning of the project. In one image, she is seen holding a script while wearing spectacles and a long braid.
Her caption, “New Beginnings #NewTamilFilm with #RBalki,” confirmed that work on the film has begun.
Reunion After Paa
The new project marks Vidya and R Balki’s first film together since Paa, which released in 2009. The film featured Vidya alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.
Their reunion after almost two decades has added interest to the upcoming Tamil project, although the makers have not yet revealed its title or storyline.

For now, information about Vidya’s character, co-stars, plot and release date has not been announced. The first glimpse primarily confirms that the project has moved into production.

She is also part of an upcoming comedy directed by Anees Bazmee, alongside Akshay Kumar and Raashii Khanna. The film is scheduled for a December 4, 2026 theatrical release.
