New York’s night sky became the setting for a striking tribute ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
A spectacular aerial display featuring 2,977 illuminated drones appeared over New York Harbor, with the lights eventually coming together to recreate the outline of the iconic Twin Towers.
One Light for Every Victim
The number of drones was not chosen by chance. The 2,977 lights represented the people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks.
As the drones moved in synchronization, the individual points of light transformed into a much larger image, creating a powerful visual tribute above Lower Manhattan.
Twin Towers Return to the Skyline
One of the most striking moments came when the drones formed an image resembling the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers.

New York also continues its traditional Tribute in Light, in which two powerful beams are projected into the sky to represent the Twin Towers.
