The Telangana Legislative Assembly on September 9, 2026, suspended 21 MLAs of the main Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), including party working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao, for the remainder of the ongoing Monsoon Session.
The decision was announced by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar after Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu moved a motion seeking the suspension of the members for repeatedly disrupting the proceedings of the House.
What Triggered the Suspension?
Chaos erupted soon after the House met when BRS legislators entered the well of the Assembly and raised slogans demanding “justice.” The Opposition members were protesting alleged high-handedness by police against BRS women MLAs and claimed that some Congress legislators had made remarks wishing the death of BRS president and Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).
Despite repeated appeals by the Speaker, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and other senior Congress leaders to return to their seats, the BRS members continued their protest. This led to the suspension motion being moved and approved.

The suspension comes amid rising tensions between the ruling Congress and the Opposition BRS during the Monsoon Session. The BRS has been demanding discussions on law and order issues and alleged threats against its leadership. Earlier in the session, two BRS MLCs were also suspended from the Legislative Council over remarks against the Speaker.
Following the suspension, senior BRS leaders, including KTR and Harish Rao, met Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla.
The Monsoon Session is expected to continue with a significantly reduced Opposition presence in the House.
