Youth Congress Takes Disciplinary Action Against Office-Bearers Over Absence From Delhi Rally

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has suspended more than 80 office-bearers across several states for failing to attend the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1. The disciplinary action follows an internal review of attendance at the opposition gathering, which focused on allegations of electoral irregularities and demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to reports, the suspensions initially affected office-bearers from Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, with further action being considered in other states.

Youth Congress Reviews Attendance Across States

The national leadership of the Indian Youth Congress had instructed its office-bearers at national, state and district levels to participate in the Delhi rally and the march organised before the event.

To monitor participation, the organisation reportedly introduced a digital attendance system through its official mobile application, With IYC. Barcode scanners were also installed at the assembly point on Minto Road to record the attendance of participants.

According to NDTV, approximately 15,000 people gathered at the assembly point, while only 2,831 registrations were recorded through the application. The organisation subsequently reviewed the attendance records and identified office-bearers who had not followed the instructions.

Several States Affected by Suspension Orders

More than 80 office-bearers had reportedly been suspended when the initial NDTV report was published on November 4.

The affected members included around 60 office-bearers from Madhya Pradesh, at least 13 from Himachal Pradesh and approximately 10 from Haryana, according to sources cited in the report.

The organisation has also sought explanations from those facing disciplinary action. Further notices and suspensions may follow as the review continues.

In Madhya Pradesh, the action reportedly covered district presidents, vice-presidents, general secretaries and secretaries who did not participate in the Delhi gathering.

Youth Congress Leadership Explains Its Decision

Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib said the organisation had taken action to maintain accountability and organisational discipline.

He stated that members had received clear instructions to participate in the rally and that office-bearers who failed to follow the directions had been removed from their positions.

The leadership has indicated that organisational responsibilities should be given to members who actively participate in party activities.

The suspensions have also prompted questions about internal coordination, attendance monitoring and the implementation of instructions within the youth wing.

Delhi Rally Remains Central to Political Debate

The INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan was organised on November 1, with opposition leaders raising concerns about alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge addressed the gathering alongside representatives of other opposition parties.

The alliance called for electoral transparency and demanded accountability from the Election Commission.

The disciplinary action within the Youth Congress has now added an organisational dimension to the political developments surrounding the rally. The review of attendance and the possibility of further suspensions are expected to remain important issues for the organisation in the coming days.
