A Gurugram woman’s unusual experience with her apartment security guard has sparked a conversation online about kindness, personal space and boundaries.
An Unexpected Dinner Delivery
Priyanka Giri and her roommate were looking for a new cook after leaving their previous one. While Priyanka was at work, their security guard contacted her and said he had brought dinner for both of them.
The food had reportedly been prepared by the guard’s wife. He also told them that he did not want money and could send them food regularly.
Why the Gesture Made Her Uncomfortable
Priyanka said she initially thought the guard might simply be thanking her for helping him previously. She later realised that her roommate had mentioned they were searching for a cook.
She said she would have found the gesture sweet if he had asked them first, but the unexpected offer made her uncomfortable. She also mentioned that the guard’s behaviour while handing over the food added to her uneasiness.
Internet Has Mixed Reactions
The incident quickly divided social media users. Some believed the guard was simply trying to help his wife find work as a cook and may have intended the food as a sample of her cooking.
Others said Priyanka was entitled to maintain her boundaries and decline something that made her uncomfortable.
A Conversation About Kindness and Boundaries
The incident has become an example of how the same gesture can be interpreted differently by different people. Priyanka said being cautious did not mean being ungrateful and that people can appreciate an act of kindness while still maintaining personal boundaries.
