Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has criticised the Centre over pending development projects in the state, particularly Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 and the Regional Ring Road (RRR). His remarks came during a conclave in New Delhi on September 28, where he spoke about Telangana’s infrastructure requirements and the Centre-state relationship.
Revanth Reddy alleged that several projects proposed for Telangana have not received the required approvals. He referred to Hyderabad Metro expansion and the Regional Ring Road while questioning the level of support being extended to the state by the Union government.
The Telangana government has been seeking early approval for Metro Phase 2. In June, Revanth Reddy met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and requested expedited clearances for the proposed 76.4-km expansion.
During the September 28 remarks, Revanth Reddy also alleged that certain investment and industrial opportunities had been shifted from Telangana to Gujarat. These are the Chief Minister’s political allegations, rather than independently established findings.
The Regional Ring Road has also remained a major infrastructure issue for Telangana. The state government has previously requested Union approval for the project, with officials discussing land acquisition and the next stages of implementation.
The comments have added another dimension to the ongoing political debate over Telangana’s infrastructure projects and the Centre-state relationship.
The issue comes amid continued discussions between Telangana and the Centre over project approvals and implementation. In May, Revanth Reddy had requested the Prime Minister to review several proposals considered important for Telangana’s future infrastructure and connectivity.
Revanth also linked the infrastructure debate with concerns over the distribution of investments between states. He alleged that some investment opportunities, including a semiconductor project, were moving towards Gujarat. Such claims remain part of the ongoing political debate between the Telangana government and the Centre.
His September 28 address covered several other issues as well, including electoral-roll revision, delimitation, education, employment and Telangana’s development priorities. He also criticised the Special Intensive Revision process and called for a nationwide campaign against it.
The remarks have once again brought the Centre–Telangana relationship and major infrastructure projects into the political spotlight, with Metro expansion and the Regional Ring Road remaining important issues for Hyderabad and the wider state.
