CJP Plans Tiranga March in Delhi as Security Tightens Over Election Commission Protest

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has planned a ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march in Delhi’s Connaught Place on October 16, 2026, amid heightened security and a growing political dispute over election-related issues. The demonstration is intended to express solidarity with jailed CJP leaders and renew demands for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Delhi Steps Up Security Ahead of March

Delhi Police has increased security around Connaught Place, Central Park, nearby metro stations and surrounding commercial areas. Authorities have deployed additional personnel and strengthened surveillance to prevent clashes and maintain public order. Central Park has been ordered closed on October 16 and 17, while prohibitory restrictions remain in force in parts of the capital.

CJP Leaders’ Arrest Triggers Fresh Protest

The march follows the arrest of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to judicial custody after allegedly entering Jantar Mantar and unfurling the national flag despite restrictions on protests at the site. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke subsequently announced the Tiranga demonstration to mobilise supporters and highlight concerns over restrictions on public protests.

Delhi High Court Refuses to Stop Demonstration

The Delhi High Court declined to restrain the proposed march, bringing the constitutional right to protest into focus. However, concerns remain over traffic disruption, public safety and the potential impact on businesses operating in Connaught Place. The Supreme Court also considered concerns surrounding the event but declined to issue immediate directions against it.

Election Commission Controversy at the Centre

The protest is also linked to opposition criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and allegations of irregularities in the voter-list revision process. Critics have questioned the exercise and demanded accountability from the Election Commission, while the Commission has denied allegations of bias. The controversy has added to political tensions between opposition groups and the BJP-led government.

Political Tensions and Public Disruption Concerns

The planned demonstration has raised concerns among local traders about possible losses from restricted access and reduced customer movement. Authorities face the challenge of managing the gathering while protecting public order and commercial activity. The developments highlight the continuing debate over protest rights, electoral transparency and the responsibilities of law enforcement.
