IndiGo to Launch Direct Mumbai–Dar es Salaam Flights: Places to Explore in East Africa

Travelling from India to East Africa is set to become more convenient as IndiGo prepares to launch daily direct flights between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from November 20, 2026. The new route will strengthen air connectivity between the two regions and make it easier for Indian travellers to plan holidays in Tanzania.

Dar es Salaam, a major coastal city on the Indian Ocean, can serve as a starting point for exploring Tanzania’s cultural heritage, beaches and wildlife experiences.

Daily Flights to Connect Mumbai and Tanzania

IndiGo has announced daily non-stop services between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam. The airline says it will be the only Indian carrier operating direct flights on this route when the service begins, subject to regulatory approvals.

The scheduled departure from Mumbai is at 2:20 am, with arrival in Dar es Salaam at 6:05 am local time. The return flight is scheduled to depart at 7:05 am and reach Mumbai at 3:55 pm local time.

The service is expected to support tourism, business travel and closer people-to-people connections between India and Tanzania.

Explore Dar es Salaam’s Culture and Coastline

Dar es Salaam combines busy urban markets, museums, waterfront attractions and beaches. Travellers can visit the National Museum of Tanzania to learn about the country’s history, while Kariakoo Market offers a glimpse into everyday local commerce.

The city’s coastal setting also makes it a useful base for beach visits and boat excursions. Visitors interested in local crafts can explore markets and shopping areas for textiles, wood carvings and souvenirs.

Zanzibar: An Island Escape

Travellers with extra time can plan an onward trip to Zanzibar, an archipelago known for its beaches, historic Stone Town and Swahili cultural influences.

Stone Town features narrow streets, historic buildings and markets that reflect centuries of trade across the Indian Ocean. The island’s beaches and marine activities also appeal to visitors looking for a relaxing extension to a mainland trip.

Travellers should plan the transfer separately and confirm ferry or flight schedules before finalising their itinerary.

Experience Tanzania’s Wildlife

Tanzania is known for its national parks and wildlife safaris. Visitors can consider destinations such as the Serengeti National Park, famous for its wildlife and seasonal wildebeest migration, or the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, known for its dramatic volcanic landscape and rich wildlife.

These trips require additional planning, travel time and budget beyond a city stay. Booking reputable safari operators and checking park access arrangements can help travellers organise the experience.

Travel Tips for Indian Visitors

Before departure, travellers should check Tanzania’s latest visa and entry requirements through official immigration channels. Passport validity, travel insurance and any required health precautions should also be confirmed in advance.

Lightweight clothing, sunscreen, insect repellent and comfortable walking shoes are useful for a tropical destination. Travellers should also plan airport transfers and use reliable local transport.

The dry season, broadly from June to October, is often suitable for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities, although conditions vary by region and individual travel plans.

A New Gateway to East Africa

The Mumbai–Dar es Salaam service could make Tanzania more accessible to Indian travellers seeking a combination of coastal holidays, cultural exploration and wildlife experiences. With onward planning, visitors can also connect their trip to other destinations in East Africa.

As the launch date approaches, travellers should confirm flight schedules, fares and entry requirements directly with the airline and relevant authorities before booking.
