Delhi Police Summons CJP Leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka After Tihar Release

Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has summoned Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for questioning, a day after they were released from Tihar Jail following seven days in judicial custody. Another CJP leader, Ajinkya Shinde, has also been asked to appear before investigators.

According to reports, the leaders were directed to reach the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden by noon on October 22, 2026. The questioning is linked to cases registered over their entry into the Jantar Mantar area during a protest on October 13.

Cases Linked to Jantar Mantar Protest

The protest was organised against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Police alleged that CJP members entered the recently de-notified protest site through private premises and crossed barricades.

Two FIRs were registered in connection with the incident. The cases involve allegations of trespassing, disobedience of official orders and obstructing or assaulting public servants. The allegations remain subject to investigation.

Leaders Released After Seven Days in Custody

Das and Ranka were released on October 21 after furnishing personal and surety bonds of ₹50,000 each and submitting written undertakings to maintain peace and follow the law.

Under the conditions, they agreed not to call for protests at Jantar Mantar until the site is legally notified again. They also undertook to ensure that any future demonstrations remain within the constitutional framework.

Investigation Continues

The Delhi Police Crime Branch is now handling both cases related to the incident. The latest summons mark another development in the dispute surrounding CJP’s protest against the Election Commission.

The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against the party leaders have not been established by a court.
