The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) have begun mobilising party workers for the INDIA bloc’s November 1 protest in New Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.
The demonstration, planned at Ramlila Maidan, is part of the opposition alliance’s nationwide campaign over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. Political leaders from Tamil Nadu are working to ensure participation from different districts and party organisations.
Congress Plans Participation From Across Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu Congress leadership is coordinating with district units to send workers to the national capital. Mayiladuthurai MP R. Sudha said party members were responding to Rahul Gandhi’s appeal and preparations were under way to bring participants from across the state.
She indicated that the party expected at least 100 workers from each district, in addition to representatives of its Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and other organisational wings.
The mobilisation is part of the Congress’s larger effort to bring supporters from different states to the Delhi demonstration.
VCK Extends Support Across Five Southern States
The VCK has also announced its participation in the rally. Party chief Thol. Thirumavalavan said cadres from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka would join the programme.
The party’s regional mobilisation is expected to add a wider southern presence to the INDIA bloc demonstration.
The participation of VCK workers from multiple states reflects the alliance’s attempt to coordinate its protest beyond individual state units.
Protest Focuses on Election Commission and SIR
The November 1 demonstration is centred on opposition allegations concerning voter-list revisions and the deletion of names during the SIR process.
Congress and its alliance partners have questioned the Election Commission’s handling of the exercise and demanded the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The Election Commission has maintained that the revision process is meant to improve electoral-roll accuracy by identifying duplicate and ineligible entries. The opposition, however, has called for greater transparency and safeguards to protect eligible voters.
Rahul Gandhi’s Appeal Drives Preparations
Rahul Gandhi has invited citizens, students, youth groups and political organisations to participate in the ‘Chalo Dilli’ march. Opposition leaders have presented the rally as a collective programme of the INDIA bloc rather than an event organised by one party alone.
The Congress and VCK are among the organisations working to bring participants from southern India to the national capital.
Delhi Rally to Bring Opposition Parties Together
The November 1 gathering at Ramlila Maidan is expected to bring together opposition leaders and party workers from several states. For Tamil Nadu Congress and VCK, the mobilisation provides an opportunity to participate in a national-level campaign while raising concerns about electoral transparency.
The scale of participation from Tamil Nadu and other southern states will be closely watched as the INDIA bloc prepares for the next phase of its political campaign.
