India continued its medal push at the Asian Games 2026 on October 2, with athletes competing across several disciplines in the closing stages of the tournament. Hockey, boxing, archery, wrestling and cricket remained among the major talking points for the Indian contingent.
Historic Gold for Women’s Recurve Team
India’s women’s recurve archery team created history by defeating South Korea 5-3 in the final. Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Anil Mohod secured India’s first-ever Asian Games gold medal in the women’s recurve team event.
The victory added another major achievement to India’s archery campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Lovlina Borgohain Wins Boxing Gold
Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain also added a gold medal to India’s tally in the women’s 75kg category. She defeated China’s Ziyi Bao in the final.
Her victory further strengthened India’s boxing campaign at the Games.
India Pakistan Hockey Semi-Final
The men’s hockey semi-final between India and Pakistan produced another closely contested encounter. India defeated Pakistan 4-3 to advance, while players from both sides exchanged handshakes and gestures of sportsmanship after the match.
The result added another chapter to the sporting rivalry between the two neighbours.
Cricket Final Against Pakistan
India also secured its place in the men’s T20 cricket final after beating Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the semi-final. India posted 169 before dismissing Sri Lanka for just 45.
Ishan Kishan top-scored with an unbeaten 80 from 46 balls, while teenage debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi contributed 38 runs. India will face Pakistan for the gold medal.
India’s Medal Campaign Continues
As of October 2, India stood seventh in the Asian Games medal table, with medals coming from archery, boxing, shooting, athletics, kabaddi and several other disciplines.
With more medal events taking place before the closing ceremony, Indian athletes remain involved in multiple competitions as the Games enter their final phase.
